Panasonic launches ‘Post Focus’ firmware download for LUMIX Cameras4th December 2015     By: Panasonic Media

Panasonic has launched 'Post Focus', a new free firmware download for LUMIX DMC-GX8, DMC-G7 and DMC-FZ300 cameras.

Panasonic's exciting new Post Focus function is easy and fun to use and encourages photographers to shoot first and focus later. After installing the Post Focus firmware, users simply select Post Focus mode in their camera settings and shoot images without worrying about focus points.

When users are ready to review their shots, they can select whichever part of the image they would like to be in-focus during playback, and save it as a separate image. The process can be repeated for multiple shots, all with different focal points, and while in Post Focus mode photographers can also use fine adjustment, 5x enlarged view and Focus Peaking options.

Andrew Reid, LUMIX Product Manager, Panasonic New Zealand says "the exciting new Post Focus function gives photographers the creative freedom to change focal points after the point of capture. You simply select your preferred focal point during playback and save it as a separate shot. This process can be repeated for numerous shots, even with Focus Peaking, 5x enlarged view, and fine adjustment settings selected. It's a whole new photographic experience."

The Post Focus function combines Panasonic's existing 4K technology with high-speed, high-precision DFD (Depth from Defocus) auto focus technology. Burst images in 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) are shot at 30 frames per second, while detecting up to 49 areas of a frame for focus points at different depths of field. Images captured in Post Focus mode are grabs from 4K video footage which are then saved as 8MP JPEG still images.

The Post Focus function is available on LUMIX DMC-GX8, DMC-G7 and DMC-FZ300 cameras by updating the firmware to version 2.0. The new Post Focus firmware is available, free of charge from LUMIX's Global Customer Support Site.

The Post Focus firmware update for DMC-GH4 is scheduled for release in early 2016.
