Panasonic has responded to requests from professional
videographers and the film production market with a paid software
upgrade service for the Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM)
camera DMC-GH4 to comply with V-Log L video recording.
From mid-September, users will be able to activate Ver 2.4 of
the new GH4 firmware when purchasing the Upgrade Software Key
DMW-SFU1.
Log recording offers exceptional flexibility as well as wider
dynamic range for colour grading in post-production process. V-Log
/ V-Log L has been developed to feature similar characteristic
curves to Cineon, which is a characteristic curve of film
digitalisation. Taking full advantage of Four Thirds sensor, V-Log
L boasts the log characteristic with 12 stops. Both V-Log and V-Log
L have the same characteristic curve and LUT (Look Up Table).
V-Log L Activation Procedure Outline:
1. Purchase Upgrade Software key
DMW-SFU1*
2. Update the GH4 firmware to Ver.2.4
3. Export the serial number of GH4 to the SD
Memory Card as "SERIAL.LST" file
4. Upload the "SERIAL.LST" file together with
the purchased Upgrade Software Key to the designated URL to get an
activation code as "ACTIVE.LST" file
5. Write the "ACTIVE.LST" on the SD Memory Card
to import it to GH4
6. Confirm that V-Log L is available in Photo
Style on GH4
