Over the weekend, billions of people worldwide turned to their
TVs to catch the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.
Utilising Panasonic's state-of-art technologies and long-term
extensive Olympic Games experience, Panasonic worked closely with
the Rio 2016 Ceremonies Department and the production company
CC2016 (Ceremony Cariocas) to provide a complete visual solution
for the opening ceremony.
In their role as the Official Opening Ceremony Partner,
Panasonic supported the performances at the Opening Ceremony by
providing projector system design, technical consultation, system
installation, and onsite operation and maintenance of the visual
systems. Panasonic also provided 110 projectors which covered all
of Maracanã stadium with mapped projections during the
Alessandro Batista, Marketing Manager for the Rio 2016 Olympic
Games said Panasonic's work with the games began four years
"We need to be involved during the whole process, since the
beginning with the definition of the venues' locations, because we
must know, for example, where Embratel was passing the fiber optic
network, what kind of lighting [General Electric] was providing,"
he said. The type of LED is a very sensitive point because
it interferes with image capturing. Panasonic allocated around 300
professionals to work in the Olympics project."
For those attending the competitions, a 55-square-metre screen
was installed in entertainment areas and meet-up points inside the
Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca and in Deodoro, called 'Live Site'.
This allows spectators to follow everything that's happening inside
the arenas during the day.
For the sports arenas, Panasonic has provided 72 LED big
screens, which will display images and scores for live matches at
the same time at 35 arenas. This year, Panasonic broadcast cameras
also will supply images that will help judges during the games, in
the case of any controversial decisions.
Furthermore, Panasonic has also provided Olympic Broadcasting
Services with 100 Full-High Definition Cameras to capture the
action from the Rio Olympics and broadcast to viewers at home
around the globe.
